HANNIBAL’S MUSEUM
Piazza Garibaldi is home to the Documentation Center on the Battle of Trasimeno, also known as Museo di Annibale (Hannibal Museum), which presents an up-to-date exhibition of studies on the Battle of Lake Trasimeno, the Second Punic War and the great Carthaginian commander Hannibal Barca.
A visit to the museum allows visitors to relive the clash, which decided the fate of the Mediterranean Sea, between the Romans and Carthaginians. It is especially focused on the Battle of Lake Trasimeno, one of the greatest ambushes in history, a source of narration for historians and poets, ancient and modern, attracted by its strong dramatic coloring.
The museum/documentation center is rich in audiovisual and educational content, model, reenactment clothing and materials.
The museum/documentation center houses a library stocked with hundreds of volumes, including research on the Battle of Trasimeno completed between 1959 and 1960 by Prof. Giancarlo Susini of the University of Bologna and various international publications devoted to the specific topic, or to the war within which it took place and its protagonists.
